Snow, Snow, Everywhere is Snow

Driving around today, I was thinking back to when I was a kid. See there was snow everywhere, road were mostly slippery and I saw some people sliding all over the place. My dad likes to tell this story, when he’d worked about an hour from our home, about a lady who was driving to fast and ended up in the ditch. See my dad was the guy in the Big Bronco that had rope or chains in it and knew how to help someone out.

So dad stopped along side the road. He hooked up his Bronco and her car together with the rope. He worked hard to pull her out, as you know there is a trick to driving in the snow and not getting stuck yourself. She thanked him and he said, “you may want to slow down, these roads are icy”. Then he goes on to say that a mile down the road where is the lady again. Yup. you guessed it- right back in the ditch again. He said that if she wasn’t smart enough to learn from the first time than someone else will have to help her out because he was going to keep digging her out.

I always thought that story was funny. If you know my dad, he always helped others out. So when I was driving around, I started thinking about how if we were to get stuck or anything today. We would be on our cell phone calling a tow truck or 911. We wouldn’t expect anyone to help us, as everyone would just keep driving by (don’t get me wrong there are a few still like my dad but pretty rare). I then went on to think about how I thought at that time that everybody who had a truck/ 4 wheel drive vehicle had all the essentials to help someone out of the ditch. I was probably wrong because not everyone would know what to do but I do know that everyone that I knew did.

It is always amazing to me how much time has changed in the last 20-25 years. It was just a common thing, people helped people. Today, people fear people. So you may be thinking what? no, that’s not it… We are just too busy or have too much going on. Now while that may have an essence of truth to it, the fact it we live in fear. What if that person is just looking to steal my car or maybe I am to be there next victim left out in the desert. The other one is well, I have kids in the backseat and I don’t want anything to happen to them otherwise, I’d stop.

Do I blame you? no, not at all. It is a very scary world out there filled with a lot of people who want to harm others or that have reached circumstances that has caused them to act out in a way that they would not have before. I find some of the bravest people are the ones willing to help against all odds and has faith that whatever comes from it is God’s will.  I do very much wonder where we will be at in the next 20 years. I see a lot of both sides happening. There is a group of people that are saying wait a minute, we need to stop what we are doing and take a lesson from our parents. Then there is a group who says, we want more freedoms and we should be able to do whatever we want, we want it all. Which side will win or will there be a compromise.

The next 4 years will be a starting point to seeing what direction society ends up following. It will definitely be an interesting ride and I pray for the best outcome, whatever God’s will is- to be done.

Sending All My Love!
